Hotei is featured as a guest on the greatly anticipated new Gang of Four album What Happens Next. Hotei and band leader Andy Gill cowrote the song “Dead Souls” and Hotei plays guitar on the heavy and powerful track. This is the 9th studio album from the internationally acclaimed British post-punk group, which originally formed in Leeds, 1977.

‘Dead Souls’, is named after Nikolai Gogol’s classic 19th century novel. “The song is about an idea that’s in the book and describes very much what is happening now, which is the uncritical acceptance of fodder: news, ideas, attitudes, consumer marketing,” Gill explains. “We’re all dead souls in the sense of being deadened.”

Other collaborators on the album include Alison Mosshart of the Kills, Gail Ann Dorsey, Robbie Furze of the Big Pink, and the iconic German musician and actor Herbert Gronemeyer. The album is released in the US on Metropolis Records on February 24, in Japan on February 25, in Europe on February 27, and in the UK on March 2.
